Favourite Hong Kong restaurants of Maggie Wong, director/partner of WTF (Worth the Fuss) Bar

Healthy eater Wong counts Vea, Kong Chai Kee, Lung King Heen, Sevva and Eat To Live among her favourite places in the city

I usually try to eat healthy. Most of the time, I just have complex carbs such as brown rice, wholewheat bread and pasta, but once in a while I treat myself to soup noodles. That’s my comfort food.
I’ve also been trying to cut back on beef, but it’s so tough. I’m doing it for the health, carbon footprint, and fresh water consumption aspects.

One of my favourite restaurants in town is Vea (30/F The Wellington, 198 Wellington Street, Central, tel: 2711 8639). They have some extremely creative dishes and every bite is a surprise. The presentation is incredible and the cocktail pairing menu is great.

Another place I love is Carbone (9/F, 33 Wyndham Street, Lan Kwai Fong, tel: 2593 2593). The cuisine there reminds me of New York Italian food. My favourite dishes are the spicy rigatoni vodka and chicken Massimo.

For noodles, I go to Kong Chai Kee, 2 Canal Road East, Causeway Bay, tel: 2893 5617) because I love their wonton and chilli sauce. The ingredients are fresh with the most aromatic soup

As for Chinese, Lung King Heen (Podium 4, Four Seasons Hotel, 8 Finance Street, Central, tel: 3196 8880) is hands down the best Chinese food in Hong Kong. I like the Sichuan-style wok-fried pork belly and crispy frogs’ legs with spicy salt.

Sevva’s terrace has an amazing view.

If I have out of town friends visiting, I like to take them to Sevva (25/F, Prince’s Building, 10 Chater Road, Central, tel: 2537 1388). You get to see the heart of the city from above with a nice glass of wine.

For more casual or weekend dining, I have been going to Home – Eat to Live (Shop G01-101, Nexxus Building, 77 Des Voeux Road, Central, tel: 2777 4777). This vegetarian place is so tasty and satisfying that I don’t miss eating meat at all.

My favourite weekend brunch place is Oolaa (Centre Stage, 108 Hollywood Road, Sheung Wan, tel: 2803 2083). It is a family friendly place with a wide range of brunch choices. My kids love their pancakes because they come with a scoop of ice cream and lots of strawberries. I can’t have enough of their brekky wrap and New York bagel with smoked salmon.

For a romantic setting, I like Tosca (102/F, The Ritz-Carlton, International Commerce Centre, 1 Austin Road West, Tsim Sha Tsui, tel: 2263 2270). It has very intimate surroundings. The food is superb and service is first class.

The best thing about my bar, WTF (10 Morrison Hill Road, Causeway Bay, tel: 2792 0823) is the feeling you get when you step inside. It’s really like you’re in your best friend’s home and he or she also happens to know how to make really good and unique cocktails.
