Restaurant review: Omega 3 in Hung Hom – good plum wine and a huge menu of Japanese classics
From sushi and sashimi to steak and Japanese dumplings, this tiny restaurant has it all. The dishes are cheap, but the presentation could be better
Omega 3 in Hung Hom feels more like a bottle shop with a few Formica tables than a restaurant – and for good reason. Despite an extensive menu ranging from well-priced sushi and sashimi to sirloin steak, it’s the cabinet of Japanese spirits that makes Omega 3 worth a visit.
The same was true of the nine-piece assorted sashimi set (HK$50), with salmon, tuna, snapper, herring, octopus, geoduck, surf clam and sweet shrimp. The salmon tasted fresh, and the tuna was thickly sliced but didn’t melt in the mouth.
Omega 3’s plum wine selection ranged from about HK$40 to more than HK$200. Our pick was the tart Rainbow plum wine (HK$40 for 200ml), which went down very smoothly.
Although the food was unremarkable, it wasn’t a wasted trip. With its friendly staff and slightly slapdash decor, the vibe felt casual and relaxed – and we thoroughly enjoyed the plum wine.
