Interested in trying hot dogs that go far beyond just sausage and bread (and which can be a lot more filling)? Try Nine Point Five in Sai Kung.

It’s not any place you’d want to make a special trip for, but if you’re in the area, it can be an inexpensive and satisfying quick meal. It’s just a few metres away from the town’s main transport interchange.

The small and frugally-designed shop was relatively quiet, with just one other customer waiting for an order. It’s a small space with a relatively large kitchen. It’s takeaway only, but there’s seating nearby. The two staff members were patient and friendly.

There are 10 hot dog choices including the One On Dog (with bolognese, HK$38) to the Yappy Dog (teriyaki chicken, HK$58) to the Show Dog (seafood, HK$98). The most expensive and the one item over HK$100 is the Warrior Dog (with soft shell crab, HK$128). A classic hot dog is HK$12 for small and HK$23 for large.

The Triple Cheese Dog (HK$58) was topped with Gouda, cheddar and Parmesan, some herbs and a hearty quantity of cooked onions. The bun was moist enough, and the cheeses were soft and melting.

You have the option of ordering the hot dog as a set too. Set A (an additional HK$20 with your hot dog of choice) gives you a drink plus fries or deep-fried onion rings; set B (an additional HK$16) gives you the choice of prawn sticks, sweet butter corn or cheesy ham balls in tomato sauce. Fries with cheese sauce were well cooked, and not too oily or salty.
