Soi Music TV praises Hong Kong’s music scene and promises to film more of it

‘There’s more than just Canto-pop,’ says music editor of Bangkok/Singapore TV station that tours cities across Asia filming local talents and presenting them to a global audience

Singer/songwriter Jing Wong is one of the local acts filmed by Soi Music TV.

Some of Hong Kong’s top independent musicians have been filmed performing on the city’s streets in a music video series by new Asian music platform Soi Music TV.

A team from Soi Music TV, which is based in Singapore and Bangkok, visited Hong Kong soon after the platform was set up in December and captured intimate live performances by singer-songwriters Jing Wong and Serrini, rapper Heyo, and indie acts Kestrels and Kites, and Stranded Whale.

Soi Music TV music editor Jillian Tan says: “We definitely intend to head back to Hong Kong soon because there’s more than just Canto-pop. There’s a huge music scene in the city and it’d be great to uncover more of it in the future.”

Tan says Soi Music TV shoots its music videos on the streets of various Asian cities to reveal their distinct local characteristics, and plans to release about three videos a week with the aim of promoting Asian musicians to a global audience.
