The mercury is dropping, so it’s the perfect excuse to take your Christmas shopping outdoors at one of the many markets being held in Hong Kong

Hullett House Christmas Market 2015
Inspired by traditional European Christmas fairs, this annual open-air market is one of the most festive options in town. Everything from gourmet hams and cheeses to fine confectionaries, glittery decorations, and stockings fillers will be on sale. Hullett House has partnered with charities HandsOn Hong Kong and Toy Drive to distribute donated toys to underprivileged children.

Tong Chong Street Market
Swire Properties and social enterprise Honesty Green, the brainchild of food writer Janice Leung Hayes (also the founder of Island East Markets), have joined hands to transform Tong Chong Street every Sunday for two months into a foodie paradise. As well as local food venders and farmers, 10 emerging culinary brands, including 3/3rds, Grassroots Pantry, Via Tokyo and The Woods, will whip up exclusive items for the fair.

Clockenflap Market
Clockenflap is one of the most anticipated music events in town, but there’s a lot more than just music going on. For the fourth year, indie craft purveyor Handmade Hong Kong has gathered a selection of 40 talented artisans who will whip up goodies to sell during the festival. There will also be artists to glam up your look with temporary tattoos, henna, hair braiding and face painting. For those who can’t make Clockenflap, check out the free-of-charge Discovery Bay Sunday Market by the same organiser on November 29.

JCCAC Handicraft Fair
At the last of the artist centre’s quarterly handicrafts fair this year, visitors can expect to find a variety of DIY crafters showing off their creations. If you’re looking for something other than the usual cookie-cutter plastic-wrapped goods, this is the place for you, as most products on sale are one of a kind. Other than shopping, there are studio visits and alfresco film screenings to keep you busy.

Scandinavian Christmas Bazaar
We don’t get to enjoy a white Christmas in Hong Kong, but at least you can try out a Scandinavian-themed Christmas bazaar. Get to know more about Danish and Swedish Christmas traditions, shop at designer brands and try some of their festive food at this bazaar. All proceeds go to Danish Seaman’s Church in Hong Kong.

In case one fair is not enough to satiate your appetite for Christmas shopping, Conrad is organising three this winter. Each fair features over 100 vendors, which change according to the different themes – pre-Christmas gift parade, Christmas showcase and Christmas gift festival, selling gourmet food, designer gifts and exotic goods from all over the world.

D2 Space has become one of the hottest venues in town for markets with different themes. As well as their Island East Market on November 21-22, the one we’ve got our eye on is the three-week vintage themed bazaar starting on November 27. From vintage watches, motorbikes and jewellery to retro furniture and rare collectible cameras, it will appeal to anyone with a passion for nostalgia.
