Marie Ranc is the co-founder and director of the roast chicken shops, La Rotisserie.
I have been living in Hong Kong for four years. My two business partners and I opened the first La Rotisserie a year ago in Sheung Wan. Our business is based on our childhood memories of eating home-made roasted chicken. In Hong Kong people generally think French food is expensive. We try to show how delicious and inexpensive everyday French food can be.
I love cooking at home and having dinner parties, but lots of the food I enjoy I don't know how to cook. Therefore, half of my weekends are spent dining out. Where I go depends on my mood.
I am a big fan of Asian cuisines. The Korean restaurant JANG (18/F The L Place, 139 Queen's Road Central, tel: 2412 0002) has good food, I just love the rice cakes and all the vegetable and meat dishes. Also in the same building is 1968 Restoran Indonesia (5/F The L Place, 139 Queen's Road, Central, tel: 2577 9981). I enjoy the crispy chicken and the signature stir-fried flat noodles.
Thai Basil (shop 001, basement, Pacific Place, 88 Queensway, Admiralty, tel: 2537 4682) serves excellent Thai fare. I particularly love their green curry with pork or chicken.
For Chinese food I habitually go to Din Tai Fung (68 Yee Woo Street, Causeway Bay, tel: 3160 8998) to devour a few truffle xiao long bao.
I occasionally detour to Dragon King Restaurant (12/F World Trade Centre, 280 Gloucester Road, Causeway Bay, tel: 2895 2288) for some of their tantalising dim sum.
If I adore the atmosphere at a location but find out the food is not what I expect, I just get a drink there. My chill-out hideaway is the authentic French wine bar Le Tambour (52A Peel Street, SoHo, tel: 3114 6320). Go there if you want to meet French people. I usually eat dinner at 8pm so my friends and I will go at 7.30pm to drink some wine and share a big plate of French style cold cuts before dinner.
I try to go back to France once a year and there are a few places I love to go while I am there. For a Parisian lunch or high tea I go to Café Jacquemart-André (158 bd Haussmann, 75008, Paris, tel: +33 (0) 1 45 62 11 59). The restaurant is inside the Jacquemart-André Museum. It's an old-fashioned French eatery with sensational desserts. La Fée Verte (108 rue de la Roquette, 75011, Paris, tel: +33 (0)1 43 72 31 24) serves traditional, reasonably priced French bistro food. I like their steak tartare with French fries and salad.
