Why Yvonne Teh, Film Editor, would love to see a vintage Japanese costume drama

If i only had one classic film to see on the big screen this week, it would be Kenji Mizoguchi's Princess Yang Kwei Fei. Only 30 of the Japanese master's almost 80 feature-length works have survived to this day. This 1955 costume drama is the first of only two colour films he made. A pioneering Japanese-Hong Kong co-production whose story centres on a Tang dynasty imperial concubine, it's also the first film produced by Run Run Shaw. It is screening at the Hong Kong Film Archive on January 9 as part of its Run Run Shaw: Factory of Dreams retrospective programme.
