Ocean's delight: Chuen Kee is the place to go if it's seafood you are after

CHUEN KEE SEAFOOD RESTAURANT
51-55 Hoi Pong Street, Sai Kung, 2791 1195

FARE Chinese seafood.

AMBIENCE There are two floors inside, but we always enjoy sitting outside next to the large aquariums brimming with seafood on the seafront. The restaurant is always full, even during the week and it is a popular destination for dim sum with Sai Kung locals.

COST HK$400 a head including beer.

WHO TO BRING Family and friends.

TURN-ONS There is an extensive à la carte menu with a good choice of seafood sets. To start, we went for a plate of the famous cashews, which they shell and roast themselves. They taste really good and go well with beer. Next, the salt and pepper squid had too much batter and not enough seasoning but grouper with broccoli was perfectly cooked. You can ask the restaurant to fillet the fish which it did for us gladly. Lobster and cheese may seem an unlikely pairing but it works well and the Sai Kung seafront restaurants are famous for them - this dish did not disappoint. The cheese does not overpower the taste of the lobster. The garlic prawns were not the best I have tried, but we loved the beef ho fan noodles and fried rice with crunchy fried garlic. The veggies are plentiful and the restaurant always offers orange wedges for something sweet to finish.

TURN-OFFS The restaurant inside is often too noisy and cold due to the air conditioner. The outside area is usually popular so you have to wait for a table.

DRINKS Beers and soft drinks are a good choice here. Tracey Furniss
