BA Polo Club captures bygone era: Argentinean steak is house reminiscent of old-style private club

Opening in the space previously occupied by Boqueria on the 7th floor of LKF Tower, Black Sheep Restaurants has opened a sophisticated Argentinean steak house, BA Polo Club. The décor is reminiscent of a private members club of the 1900s, at the height of Argentinean affluence, decked in wood and leather, equestrian antiques and paintings and also includes an impressive collection of steak knives in one of the private rooms.

The menu showcases the best of Argentina featuring asado-style grilled meats and other popular dishes. We started with the chicken liver pate with crispy chicken skin and caramelised shallots (HK$88) and provoleta, which is rustic grilled bread (HK$128), steak tartare with gaucho bread, crispy shallots and smoked sardines (HK$148) followed by a delicious must-try wood smoked bacon topped with chimichurri (HK$168).

Chef Felipe Lopez cures the bacon with gin, juniper and bay leaf for several days before slow roasting. We then had the half chicken rubbed with chimichurri HK$258) and 30oz T-bone pure black Angus steak (HK$788) with sides that included a delicious fully loaded baked sweet potato with sour cream, Manchego and chorizo (HK$78).

The restaurant excels at meat dishes which come with choices of sauces. We finished with a fun dessert, roasting marshmallows over a charcoal flame, and Don Pedro - ice cream doused in the licquer. And, don't forget to have the Mi Gran Cigarro, a mix of bourbon, cognac and rum infused with vanilla, coffee and tobacco flavours before you leave.
