Café Gray Deluxe offers sophisticated dishes and great views

The restaurant has airy atmosphere and delicious food offerings, but the seating arrangement was cramped

Café Gray Deluxe has a sophisticated vibe and great views.

COST HK$395 for two courses, HK$445 for three courses.

WHO TO BRING People you want to impress in two and a half hours.

TURN-ONS We enjoyed the airy atmosphere and the view. Our appetiser of lemon and chilli cured Tasmanian salmon with avocado-cucumber salsa was soft, tender and bursting with flavour, making this our favourite dish of the day.

Our mains of miso-glazed Icelandic cod and rice wine-braised pork belly with spiced cabbage were also a big hit. Both were flavourful and the cod deserves special mention for its soft yet firm texture. The pork belly dish came with a rich sauce that we wanted to dip our bread into.

TURN-OFFS The green-tea mascarpone sabayon with mandarin chutney and topped with a spoonful of sorrel sorbet was disappointing. The sorrel sorbet, however, was refreshing and could have been served on its own or with other sorbets. The floating island with elderflower Anglais and cassis and red currants fared better, though the sugar art cage stuck to our teeth. Although the restaurant is spacious, the seating was a bit cramped, and made us feel as though we were having lunch with those sitting at the neighbouring tables. The seat next to us looked frayed and in need of reupholstering.

DRINKS Coffee or tea, accompanied by large chunks of delicious milk and dark chocolate.
