We review Yi, Morpheus Macau’s Chinese restaurant with sky-high views

  • The restaurant serves creative regional Chinese dishes, with Cantonese, Sichuan, Chaozhou, Hunan and Shandong flavours to choose from
Yi at Morpheus in Macau is a spacious restaurant with stunning decor.

Located on the 21st-floor Skybridge at Morpheus in Macau, Yi is a stunning restaurant, with tables enveloped by dragon-inspired structures topped with geometric-patterned scales. The space between tables ensures privacy while allowing diners to enjoy views of the spacious atrium and garden. Service is friendly, and we were shown the tea pairing menu to match our dishes. There is a choice of six varieties of tea: white, yellow, green, oolong, black and red. New teas are sourced regularly.

Yi is possibly the only Chinese restaurant in Macau with an omakase-style menu that changes daily (the restaurant is only open in the evening). It serves innovative regional Chinese dishes featuring Cantonese, Sichuan, Chaozhou, Hunan and Shandong flavours.

Chef Angelo Wong, previously at Howard’s Gourmet, and chef Wilson Fam, previously with Jade Garden, are inspired by seasonal ingredients they find at the markets each morning to create dishes for the evening. In fact, there are no freezers in the kitchen, to ensure the freshest ingredients.

Everything we tried was outstanding. Menus had brief descriptions such as Fresh, Seafood and Vegetables; the staff described each dish as they arrived. The chefs put new spins on traditional favourites such as honey-roasted Wagyu beef char siu and oven-roasted lemongrass baby pigeon. The noodles were somewhat nostalgic, using ingredients once popular – home-made rice noodles come with soy braised pork belly, eggs, pork intestines, pork ears and bean curd.

We loved the crockery and Baccarat crystal. There is also an extensive wine and liquor list, with cocktails inspired by Chinese ingredients. The Cigar Bar has a variety of smokes to go with wines and spirits, perfect for an after-dinner digestif. The main dining room only accommodates 60 guests.
