Rewind’s rooftop parties have become the go-to events this summer, and this time the promoter is bringing us a beach party, Waves by Rewind. Expect sandy DJ beats and lots of really good-looking people.

Sunday 8/9

The Lan Kwai Fong Beer and Music Fest is inevitably back. You know the drill: more than 100 beers flowing liberally from street booths, restaurants and bars. This year, the festival’s theme is “Wild West”—so expect wagons, cactuses and cowgirl dance shows. Remember: Drink to excess, responsibly.

Monday 8/10

Organized by Amnesty International, the North Korea Human Rights Film Festival screens films and documentaries chronicling the lives of defectors from the DPRK. There are also post-screening discussions with directors and the escapees.

Tuesday 8/11

Cinephiles, get your pensive looks ready: The Summer International Film Festival returns. Featured films include Hou Hsiao-hsien’s latest offering “The Assassin,” which won him best director at Cannes this year. Starring Shu Qi, it’s an artsy first foray into the wuxia genre for the director.

Wednesday 8/12

Think you’re good at pool? Hit up Play’s Pool Tournament Wednesdays. The winner gets a magnum bottle of Belvedere while the runner-up gets a normal-sized bottle. Errbody wins!

Thursday 8/13

Catch the last few days of the International Arts Carnival. Events still running are an exhibition celebrating the 20th birthday of comic book character Woody Woody Wood, and puppet show “Super Mama Market.”

Friday 8/14

Foodies, loosen your belts for the Hong Kong Food Expo. Sample stall after stall of delectable treats, from instant noodles to Michelin-starred dishes all under one gargantuan roof.

Saturday 8/15

Yuen Long plays host to OpenSesame!, a two-day festival boasting over 30 indie acts including Ni.ne.mo and ANWIYCTI. Best part? You can set up camp and stay the night. Organizers stumbled on the space and begged villagers to let them host the shindig, which will also offer games, food and drinks.

Last Chance…

After eight years of quality indie gigs, comedy shows and film screenings, Backstage Live is closing at the end of the month. To bid farewell, the venue is putting on the Stagéjàvu Festival, a series of goodbye gigs featuring groups who have graced its stage. See the likes of electro rockers Redholic (pictured), cinematic rock five-piece Nowhere Boys and jazz singer Angelita Li—all before the Stagéjàvu Closing Indie Music Party on August 30.
