Schwarzenegger Tells Hong Kong to Get Off the Couch at Arnold Classic Asia

He needs your clothes, your boots, and your Octopus Card.

Arnold Schwarzenegger is in Hong Kong right now, and he's brought with him the world’s biggest multi-sports festival, taking place this weekend.

On Friday the Hollywood megastar and former California Governor introduced the Arnold Classic Asia Multi-Sport Festival 2016, where more than 5,000 people will participate in more than 28 sports events at AsiaWorld Expo from 20-21 Aug 2016.

“I’m extremely excited because I’ve been doing this [promoting health and fitness] for the past 40 years. And to me it is not only important to be a bodybuilding champion, and do movies, and be the governor, but also to use my power of influence to promote health and fitness all over the world,” Schwarzenegger said.

The event is the first of its kind in Asia, bringing together more than 300 brands and featuring sports competitions and interactive workshops that range from mind sports, such as chess, to physical disciplines such as yoga, cycling, rowing and weightlifting, as well as martial arts including judo, kung fu, kalis and more. Highlights include pop spin classes run by XYZ, and Street Workout demonstrations by The World Street Workout and Calisthenics Federation.

The seven-time Mr. Olympia winner co-founded the sports event in 1989 with close friend and former FBI agent Jim Lorimer, at first aiming to promote bodybuilding before turning it into an all-round sports festival. When asked how he maintains a healthy mind and body, the action star said he is a strong believer in Ted Turner’s quote: "Early to bed, early to rise, work like hell and advertise."  "I get up at 5 in the morning. I read the news and go to the gym before starting the day. Keeping your mind healthy is as important as keeping your body fit; always challenge yourself and do something physically and mentally vigorous every day."

Schwarzenegger explained his ambition to inspire people worldwide to incorporate exercise into their daily lives. "It doesn’t matter if you’re doing bodybuilding, weight lifting, wrestling, soccer, badminton, ping-pong, or whatever it is. As long as you get off the couch and do something, with your family. This is what the Arnold Classic Asia Multi-Sport Festival is all about: to celebrate all the sports."

Tickets for the first Arnold Classic Asia Multi-Sport Festival are now on sale at www.arnoldclassicasia.com from HKD150 per adult, HKD80 for under 18 years and full-time students, and free entry for children under 12 years.
