Behind the label: Saymyname

Marisa Cannon

Who started it? A graduate of the Moda Gudi School in Porto, Portugal, Catarina Cerqueira began her career with French brands Lady Soul and Homecore. After a stint as creative assistant to fellow Portuguese designer Luis Buchinho, in 2007, she launched Saymyname – an homage to art, culture and experimentation.

Why we love it: inspired by cultural motifs, Saymyname’s designs are eccentric but also stylish and wearable. Ethnic influences and relaxed cuts make up the label’s most recent offerings, and Cerqueira channels her latest influence – Islamic sufis – through statement wraps, linen jackets and draped skirts. Turquoise metallic fabrics feature as lively counterparts to flowing pastel jumpsuits, all of which make for wonderful summer wear.

What we’d pick: the Macacao jumpsuit (left; HK$3,280) is classically elegant and fun while the mid-length white coat (far right; HK$3,520) is a strong staple: we love it for its understated lines and simplicity. For something a little more feminine, there’s the zigzagprint dress with a panelled waist (centre; HK$2,950), perfect for work and cocktails.

Where can you get it? Saymyname is available at Seibu, Pacific Place, Admiralty, tel: 2971 3888.
