What a man wants: ST Dupont, Geox, Montblanc

Abid Rahman appreciates some classy looks for the mature gentleman, retro fountain pens and Patrick Cox's capsule shoe collection for Geox

Write moves We still think Montblanc replacing Nicolas Cage (the greatest actor of his generation) as brand ambassador with Hugh Jackman was an epic mistake. Associating with long dead celebs from the past, however, must save on the pennies and Montblanc has clearly diverted that cash into projects such as this fine line of limited-edition writing instruments paying tribute to cultural and political figures. We're big fans of the Writers Edition: Leo Tolstoy fountain pen (above; HK$7,800) and the JFK fountain pen (top; HK$28,500). Montblanc is in IFC Mall, Central.

Extraordinary gentlemen Here at The goods, we're not ageist or anything but, well, we're easily distracted by shiny things, squirrels and whizz-bang presentations. Alas, blame years of video games for our short attention span. This week, however, we've found some rather nifty threads at ST Dupont for the more mature gentleman. We like this casual weekend look of brown overcoat (HK$28,000), light grey jumper (HK$5,500), the essential white dress shirt (HK$2,980) and beige trousers (HK$2,580), with personality added through accessories such as the sunglasses (HK$2,000), tie and scarf (sadly, not yet priced for Hong Kong; all above left). We also like this more active yet still casual look, the centrepiece of which is the brown leather jacket (HK$15,980) underneath which lies a blue jumper (HK$3,300), light blue dress shirt (HK$2,800) and blue jeans (HK$1,800; all above right). The tie (also yet to be priced) is probably overkill. ST Dupont is in The Landmark, Central.

Step up Shoe brands such as Geox, which makes practical, innovative and breathable footwear, have a tough time getting attention because, well, they're sensible. The Italian brand isn't, however, without a sense of panache and has drafted in legendary Canadian-British shoemaker Patrick Cox to create a must-have capsule collection. Out of a quite excellent range (prices start at HK$2,499) we love the hi-top brown leather trainer (above left) and the black, fatigued leather dress shoe (above right). Geox is in IFC Mall.
