When it came to debuts, there were plenty. In New York, hipper-than-thou Public School designers Dao-Yi Chow and Maxwell Osborne took the reigns at DKNY with a collection that merged their tailoring with the latter label’s urban aesthetic. In Milan, there was plenty of hype surrounding Peter Dundas’ appointment at Roberto Cavalli and that of Massimo Giorgetti at Emilio Pucci. Both of their collections garnered mixed reviews, however, as did Guillaume Henry’s debut for Nina Ricci.
Alexander Wang bowed out of Balenciaga after just three years with a poetic, all-white collection, but celebrated 10 successful years of his own eponymous label. On the last day of New York Fashion Week, Wang’s replacement was named: Vetements designer Demna Gvasalia.
3.1 Phillip Lim
Others celebrating the big 10 included London-based Roksanda Ilincic, who threw a star-studded dinner we attended at Caviar Kaspia, in Paris, to which Kanye West showed up. Riccardo Tisci marked a decade at the house of Givenchy and 3.1 Phillip Lim also turned 10 – rather fittingly, Lim, the man, told the audience that it was time “to stop and smell the flowers”. A message we should all take note of, especially in the age of Instagram.
