How Dennis Rodman’s wacky fashion steals the show in The Last Dance
- NBA legend Michael Jordan might be the nominal star of the popular ESPN and Netflix television show
- But Rodman’s wild hair colours, famous girlfriends and adventurous looks take the fashion spotlight
The runaway success of ESPN and Netflix television series The Last Dance has put the spotlight back on NBA legend Michael Jordan and his incredible reign at the Chicago Bulls, focusing on the 1997-98 season.
Menswear aficionados have had mixed reactions about the era’s baggy – some would say ill-fitting – power suits, which Jordan wears off the court.
But when it comes to fashion in the show, fellow player Dennis Rodman, who joined the Chicago Bulls in 1995, steals the limelight with his wild style.
The documentary depicts him partying in Las Vegas and hanging out with former girlfriends Madonna and Carmen Electra while sporting his signature closely shaved hair dyed in a variety of bright colours and patterns.
Rodman was an adventurous dresser in the relatively conservative world of 90s basketball, unafraid to adorn his body with piercings, and even wear women’s lingerie and make-up for appearances and magazine covers.
Now 59 and a pal of North Korean dictator Kim Jong-un, Rodman hasn’t lost any of his mojo. Just scroll down his Instagram feed and you’ll find plenty of wacky fashion inspiration – past and present – from the basketball champion.
