Hong Kong takes on a rosy glow for Pink Season 2016

Asia’s biggest LGBTI festival celebrates all things lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex. Don’t miss the sports day, beach party, camping weekend and the ever-popular Floatilla junk party

Pink Season 2016, Asia’s largest LGBTI festival, celebrates openness, acceptance and love through events such as the annual sports day (above).

Pink is the colour as Hong Kong braces for its fifth annual LGBTI festival, Pink Season 2016. Celebrating all things lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex, the festival runs from September 30 to November 5 and is bigger than ever, with 25 events around the city over five fun-filled weeks.

Back on the agenda are the annual sports day and urban race, beach party and picnic, camping weekend and the ever-popular Floatilla junk party. New events include a brunch, a bike ride along the Tai Wai waterfront, an outdoor cinema and a panel discussion about adoption and surrogacy.

“The response from the community has been inspirational … very humbling,” says the event’s director, Philip Howell-Williams. “If we can help people to learn to accept who they really are, make new friendships, and break down the prejudices that exist in Hong Kong, then it’s worth every minute of time and every penny spent.”
