Top eight looks from the MET Gala 2015

Rihanna

The annual MET Gala brings us some of fashion’s greatest red carpet moments. Fashion-forward celebrities are dressed to the nines to impress. This year, the theme was particularly close to home as the gala celebrated “China: Through the Looking Glass”.

The theme, of course, ran the risk of some of our favourite celebs turning up in tacky, over-the-top “tributes” to Chinese culture (lest we forget the 2013 punk debacle).  On that note, STYLE was pleasantly surprised by many choices made by the attendees.

In line with the theme, we've rounded up 8 of our favourite looks of the night.

Rihanna stole the show with a dramatic robe by designer Guo Pei. Wrapped in the yellow fur-trimmed ensemble of the designer’s 2010 couture collection, the singer truly took the theme and made it her own.

Solange Knowles

Solange Knowles also took the theme to heart. Wearing a unique Giles Deacon dress, the singer definitely knew how to make a statement. The origami-inspired dress took “through the looking glass” quite literally.

Gong Li

Gong Li took a more subtle approach. A theme no doubt close to her heart, the co-chair of the event wowed in a black lace Roberto Cavalli gown. Her velvet lace gown featured intricate embroidery on the back.

As the new face of Calvin Klein, Kendall Jenner opted for a relatively understated jade gown from the brand to pay subtle tribute to the theme.

Jennifer Lopez showed off her famous curves in a custom-made Versace gown featuring a sequined dragon woven gracefully around her body.

Sienna Miller

Sienna Miller took a cool approach in a Thakoon red chiffon fringe sequined tuxedo. Her rope tassel belt brought us back to the yesteryears.

Amal Clooney

Amal Clooney opted for a red John Galliano for Maison Margiela gown. The bodice of the gown was reminiscent of Chinese military armour but made glamorous for the event.

We all know gold is a lucky colour in Chinese culture – and Jessica Chastain certainly wowed in her gold Givenchy gown.
