Panerai pays tribute to Italian roots

By Jo Lee

Panerai boutique in Florence, Italy.

Officine Panerai has made some exciting achievements. Not only has the brand renovated and expanded its historical Florence store, its involvement in restoring the great Duomo clock in Florence is also something to be proud of. Plus the release of an exclusive timepiece perfectly marks the end of the year for the brand.

The maison started the restoration of the clock last year. The clock features amazing artwork on its dial. It is unique because it has preserved the ancient Italian Time system which has a single hand moving round the dial anti-clockwise and the 24th hour is not midnight but the hour of sunset, from which the counting of the hours starts. Panerai collaborated with Professor Andrea Palmieri and Professor Ugo Pancani on the restoration.

In addition, the maison renovated its Florence boutique with the help of Spanish designer Patricia Urquiola. The store has both traditional and modern elements. The shop exclusively offers the Radiomir Firenze Special Edition to honourable guests. Decorated with hand-engraved lines, the master craftsmanship is marked by clean lines of purity and sophistication, making each piece one-of-a-kind.

The maison has also teamed up with Museo Galileo in Florence to develop a permanent interactive area dedicated to “Galileo and the measurement of time” as well.
