Why is K-pop band BTS taking a break now – at the height of its global fame?

  • The seven-member pop group, which has not taken any time off since making its debut in 2013, has been on an extended, sold-out global tour since last August
K-pop boy band BTS, which has been on a successful world tour since last August, is taking a break from performing, says its management company Big Hit Entertainment.

K-pop boy band BTS plans to take an extended break from performing to allow its members to “enjoy the ordinary lives of young people in their 20s,” the group’s agency said on Monday.

It will be the first time the seven members of the South Korean group have taken time off since the band made its debut in 2013.

This period of rest will be an opportunity for the members of BTS, who have relentlessly driven themselves toward their goal since their debut, to recharge and prepare to present themselves anew as musicians and creators Big Hit Entertainment, BTS’ management company

The group has gained a huge following abroad in recent years and its sold-out Love Yourself World Tour, which began last August and included concerts in the United States, Canada, England, the Netherlands, France, Germany, Japan, Thailand and Taiwan, was extended in April.

The BTS World Tour Love Yourself: Speak Yourself – which offers a period without any performances during September – will conclude with dates in Saudi Arabia and Seoul at the end of October.

Big Hit Entertainment, which manages the group comprising Jin, Suga, J-Hope, RM, Jimin, V and Jungkook, gave no precise information of how long the break would last, but suggested the group would be taking a break “only briefly”.

[The break will] provide them with a chance to enjoy the ordinary lives of young people in their 20s, albeit briefly Big Hit Entertainment

It said on Twitter: “This period of rest will be an opportunity for the members of BTS, who have relentlessly driven themselves toward their goal since their debut, to recharge and prepare to present themselves anew as musicians and creators.

“This will also provide them with a chance to enjoy the ordinary lives of young people in their 20s, albeit briefly.

“Should you have a chance encounter with a member of BTS while they are on vacation, we ask that you show consideration for their need to rest and enjoy their private time off.”

However, the agency promised fans that the group would eventually “return refreshed and recharged”.
