What’s next for K-pop group BigBang, as Taeyang and Daesung are discharged from military service?

K-pop fans may rejoice that BigBang’s Taeyang and Daesung have finally been discharged from the Korean military – but will they reunite with G-Dragon and T.O.P to revive the controversy-hit group?

Taeyang and Daesung of K-pop boy band BigBang have officially returned to civilian life.

The two stars enjoyed a discharge ceremony from the Korean military on Sunday (November 10) morning in front of the Ground Operations Command in Yongin, Gyeonggi Province. Thousands of international fans greeted the singers after completing their period of compulsory conscription.

“I still can't believe I am discharged from the military,” Taeyang, 31, said. “I think I had a meaningful time. I want to thank my brothers in arms and the military officials who guided me during my 20-month service.”

Daesung, 30, said: “While being enlisted, I felt a lot of things that I couldn't when I was outside the army. I also learned ways to understand other people's minds. I would like to express love and gratitude to my fellow soldiers and the military officers who are defending our country even now.”

Taeyang also hinted at the group's future, saying BigBang’s members will have a discussion about the band’s future plans.

“We want to pay you back with rocking performances,” he said.

As of Sunday, all of BigBang members – G-Dragon, T.O.P, Taeyang and Daesung – have now completed their obligatory military service. But the band's agency YG Entertainment has not yet revealed details of the group's future.

BigBang debuted with five members in 2006, but the youngest, Seungri, left in March this year after a nightclub affiliated with him was mired in a various scandals involving drugs and sex crimes.
