Why WWE’s ‘Rowdy’ Ronda Rousey and husband UFC fighter Travis Browne swapped showbiz glamour for life on a sustainable California farm

The wrestling bombshell traded the limelight for living a low-key rural life on a ‘sustainable ranch home that radiates love’ in Riverside, California ... but is a comeback on the cards?

Ronda Rousey’s name has become synonymous with body-slams, arm bars and her banging body. But where the heck is she? Rousey hasn’t appeared on WWE TV since that controversial loss to Becky Lynch in a triple-threat match with Charlotte Flair at WrestleMania 35. And that was in April 2019.

Turns out Rowdy Ronda has become Restrained Ronda as she focuses on her farm, raising goats and feeding chickens. Here’s a look inside Rousey’s newly modest lifestyle …

So, why a farm?

When you were once one of the highest paid female athletes why trade it in for feeding chickens and fighting over a TV remote with your man?

Well, Rousey grew up in North Dakota between three and nine years old, and says that living on a farm has always been a dream, as revealed on a 20-minute YouTube video posted on the former fighter’s official account, “A Day in the Life of Ronda Rousey and Travis Browne”, which has attracted nearly two million views at the time of writing.

“A lot of my early memories were being able to run around and go into the back and pick raspberries. I always kind of wanted to be able to give my kids that off-the-grid living experience.”

Who (and what) are on the farm?

Rousey married her boyfriend, Travis Browne, in 2017. Browne has two boys from a previous relationship, Kaleo and Keawe, and they both live on the ranch, called Browsey Acres (get it?). Along with the foursome are goats, a steer, a donkey, a whole bunch of chicken and ducks and three dogs. Her favourite animal? Milly the donkey.

Farm life in 24 hours

Rousey says her hubby wakes up at the crack of dawn, exercises and then feeds all the animals. She gets up a little later and makes breakfast for the family. While Browne takes the boys to school, Rousey uses the chance to work out. In terms of running the farm, she says she gathers eggs, throws scraps to chickens, pets the goats and “makes out” with the donkey. As the day ends, Rousey and Browne take a moment to be together in front of the barn while the goats compete for their attention.

Living sustainably

Rousey says that her goal for the farm is to create a “sustainable ranch home that radiates love”. But making the decision to eat the animals that you raise is a dilemma Rousey and Browne had to face.

“That's all we're trying to do, is just make sure the animals here have a good life so that whether we eat them, or their eggs, or put them to work, that they want to be here,” said Browne.

Farm life = financial freedom?

Rousey says it satisfies her to know she is making a contribution towards being financially free. “My dream is for our family to be able to live comfortably off of less money every year and someday free ourselves from worrying about a constant stream of income.”

OK, but what next?

The farm gal is signed to WWE until 2021. Although there’s been doubt about her return, especially after she just called out her fans for “not appreciating” her, there is some speculation that it could all be a ruse for one epic rowdy return.
