Netflix K-drama Private Lives sees Go Kyung-pyo charm Seohyun’s character, in a swoon-worthy comeback role recalling Reply 1988 and Don’t Dare to Dream

In his first project after military service, the actor said to look like Super Junior’s Siwon and Olaf from Frozen, plays smoothie Lee Jung-hwan – reminding the world why they fell for the happy-go-lucky actor in the first place

Dashing South Korean actor Go Kyung-pyo is making his dramatic post-military service comeback in Private Lives, playing a smart con artist who belongs to the one per cent, the elite. Two episodes in, and we’ve fallen for him as hard as the character Cha Joo-eun, played by former Girls Generation singer Seohyun, has.

As the JTBC series picks up international steam on Netflix, here are five reasons you should fall in love with the dreamy, 30-year-old star, too.

1. He can shed weight as quickly as he puts it on

According to Koreaboo, after successfully auditioning for Reply 1988 in 2015, Go gained weight while waiting for the production to start – however he was able to quickly lose it all, shedding eight just in time for filming and seven kilograms more throughout the series!

Following his 2016 drama, Don’t Dare to Dream, he again was interviewed about his dramatic weight loss. He revealed that he didn’t change his diet nor give up carbs. Instead, he quit drinking and late night snacks, and exercised, walking three to four kilometres a day.

2. He can shine outside the spotlight

While he started out playing comical and immature roles, Go began to make an impact for his performances in Reply 1988 and Don’t Dare to Dream, gaining a solid fan base. Those roles had the same irresistible charm that makes the girls swoon as the cheeky, smooth-talking Lee Jung-hwan he plays in his current show, Private Lives.

3. He can sing!

In 2017, Go earned his first lead role in the drama Strongest Deliveryman. He even performed a song called La la la, which is part of the drama’s official soundtrack.

In the past, Go also showcased his vocal chops playing a supporting role in Flower Boy Next Door – the 2013 comedy series also aptly known as My Cute Guys.

4. Doesn’t he remind you of Super Junior’s Siwon?

Before he achieved K-drama fame, Go was a regular on SNL Korea for three seasons. One of the reasons he was cast is because he is said to look like Super Junior’s Siwon, whom he filled in for when the idol couldn’t host the show due to a scheduling conflict. In that episode, members of Super Junior took turns introducing themselves, with fans screaming after Go subbed for Siwon.

5. He is said to look like Frozen’s Olaf, too

In Youth Over Flowers – a travel reality show that ambushed the Ssangmun-dong trio from Reply 1988 as they finished a post-filming holiday together and took them off to Namibia – Go’s co-star Ryu Jun-yeol called him Olaf, referring to the Frozen character. It’s because he looks so happy and smiles just like him!
