Following in her famous father’s footsteps, Ella Bleu Travolta is playing the lead in Get Lost, a modern retelling of the Disney classic Alice in Wonderland. In the forthcoming drama, “Alica” goes backpacking to Budapest to fulfil her mum’s last wish, at which point the city magically turns into Wonderland.

Though she made her screen debut at just seven years old, this is Ella’s first big role. So what do we know about legendary actor John Travolta’s 21-year-old daughter?

She clearly has acting in her DNA

Ella Travolta was born into a family full of actors. Her father, John, is known for his iconic roles in dozens of films, most notably Saturday Night Fever and Quentin Tarantino’s cult classic Pulp Fiction. Both roles earned him best actor Oscar nominations. Her mother, Kelly Preston, was also an actress and model, with credits to her name in films such as Jerry Maguire and What a Girl Wants.

John in turn gets his acting talent from his grandmother, Helen Cecilia Travolta, who was an actress and singer who appeared with The Sunshine Sisters, a radio vocal group, before becoming a high school drama and English teacher, according to Celebrity Net Worth. As he is the youngest of six brothers and sisters who all followed acting careers, Ella is also the niece of actors and actresses Ann, Margaret, Ellen, Sam and Joey Travolta.

She has loved acting from a young age

Having grown up in a family full of actors, Ella’s passion for acting was nurtured from a young age. “Since I was very little, I’ve loved performing, singing, dancing and putting on shows at home for my family and friends,” she told People.

In their house, there is a stage area set up with a little red curtain for performances, the young actress told People. Ella and her friends performed everything from the Hulk to Christmas shows, and her parents were always in the front row.

Ella is also a big fan of her parents’ work. Her favourites of her dad’s films are From Paris with Love and Grease, while her mum’s top titles are The Cat in the Hat and What a Girl Wants, as she added with People. In 2019, Ella showed off her Grease fandom by attending a themed singalong and meet and greet in Florida that she described on Instagram as “one of the most wonderful and beautiful nights of her life”.

She appeared on screen as a kid, thanks to her great mentor: her dad

When Ella was seven, she told her father that she wanted to be in a movie. One week later, she was offered an opportunity to appear in Old Dogs and so came her film debut, as John recalled to The Hollywood Reporter. In the comedy, she starred with her parents as their on-screen daughter Emily, alongside the late Robin Williams.

Over 10 years later, Ella told her dad that she was ready for another movie, and the script of The Poison Rose landed in her hands, which she also starred in with John.

Her parents guided her every step of the way, according to Ella, telling People that “it’s sort of the family business!”.

Particularly, her father is her “best mentor ever”, in her words. In fact, he was even a stage dad to her, as he revealed with Entertainment Tonight: “I am ridiculous. I’m behind the camera mouthing every word she says, doing her moves. My wife gets hysterical watching me watch her, because I just want it to go great”

Her daughter clearly felt great about it. “It actually helped so much knowing that he was there … He would come up in between scenes … and then I would know that I had him behind the monitor, just watching, making sure it was good,” she also shared with Entertainment Tonight. “Having him there was just a gift,” she also told Extra TV about working with her dad.

She had a crush on Taylor Lautner

Ella confirmed that she was always in Twilight’s team Jacob and had a crush on Taylor Lautner when she was about 10 years old. One day, when Lautner and his family visited her dad, Ella and her friends were so excited that they decided to look up pictures of him. Her dad embarrassed her by telling his visitor what his daughter was up to.

Lautner laughed and thought it was cute, Ella told Entertainment Tonight.

She’s grown up fast

Like many teenagers, Ella’s appearance has changed rapidly as she grew up and adapted to the world around her. While she reportedly attracted negative judgy comments on social media in the past, in recent years the star has made efforts to get into shape, embracing a programme of fitness workouts, training and diet plans, according to GlamourBiz.

According to The Mercury News, Ella has been showing interest in raising her profile in the Scientology community by appearing in more public events with her father, including attending the church’s Dianetics Day celebrations – one of Scientology’s most hallowed days on the calendar.

She loves to travel

Thanks to her parents’ work, Ella has travelled to many places since she was young. This formative upbringing made her curious about the world, different cultures and people and love new experiences, according to TV Overmind.

Some of the places she has been to include Australia and Austria. Her passion for travelling and discovery no doubt helped her embrace the role of wanderlust-struck Alice in Get Lost soon.
