When it comes to the crazy rich, India’s billionaires certainly live up to the title. Whether it’s entrepreneurs with multimillion-dollar businesses going bust, or Bollywood stars who charge hefty sums for featuring in film productions, these A-listers have had a wild year with their wealth.
These were their biggest headlines in 2021 …
1. We revisited B.R Shetty’s journey from being one of India’s richest billionaires … to ending up broke
We’re all familiar with the “rags to riches” story, but what happens when you go back down to rags again? From selling Nivea cream to owning two floors of the Burj Khalifa, B.R. Shetty was once worth more than US$3 billion.
However, an investigation into his company revealed a whopping US$4 billion of hidden debts. Desperately trying to prove himself, Shetty’s had a rough year trying to salvage his reputation.
