- She also splashes cash on cars, including a Land Rover Range Rover Vogue, a BMW 7-Series, an Audi A6 and a ‘vanity van’ designed by Shah Rukh Khan’s wife, Gauri
Alia Bhatt is the talk of Bollywood after the release of Gangubai Kathiawadi, which has been a celebratory success in India. The film, which was directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, hit theatres on February 25.
And while Bhatt’s role in the film has brought her plenty of love, there’s no doubt she has already cemented herself as a Bollywood favourite – who also likes to spend.
She has previously spoken about her spending habits, saying that she splurges on holidays and bags. But she has always been very aware of money and knows she has to have limits, saying in an interview with Economic Times’ Panache magazine, “I can live within a budget. I don’t spend that much. My chartered accountant often tells me ‘Why don’t you spend more?’” In fact, to celebrate the success of the film, she went out for a modest meal: a vegan burger and chips.
But while she knows how to keep it casual, there’s no doubt that Bhatt also lives a glam life. Here are some of her biggest splurges.
1. Luxury homes
Bhatt made headlines when she bought a property in Mumbai’s Bandra area for an estimated US$4.2 million. Hindustan Times reported that the actress bought the 2,460 sq ft flat in the Vaastu Pali Hill complex in November 2020. She apparently stays on the fifth floor, with the interior being designed by Gauri Khan, the wife of Bollywood legend Shah Rukh Khan. On top of this, she shares a Juhu home with her sister Shaheen Bhatt.
And if those homes aren’t enough, Bhatt also bought herself a luxury pad in Covent Garden, London. NDTV reported that she had always dreamt of buying a house in the city and. in 2018, made sure her dream became a reality.
Bhatt also said that one day she’d like a private jet. She has commissioned a flight on one, but owning one is still on her to do list.
2. The ultra-fancy vanity van
When you’re in the acting business and are always on the road, you’re going to want to travel in luxury. Enter the “vanity van”! The Times of India reported that vanity vans are where many Bollywood celebs spend their time, so they take a lot of time to make sure they are as comfortable as possible.
The publication also reported that Bhatt’s van was designed by Gauri Khan too, and Bhatt has posted plenty of pictures of herself in her swanky abode. It has a classy feel with disco lights, mirrors and purple lighting.
3. The car collection
Bhatt likes to spend big on her cars and her impressive garage is filled with expensive whips. According to GQ India, she has a Land Rover Range Rover Vogue, a BMW 7-Series and an Audi A6.
4. Bags galore
If there’s one thing Bhatt likes to spend on, it’s designer bags. She told The Economic Times that the first expensive thing she bought as a teenager with her own money was a Louis Vuitton bag. “I splurge the most on bags. I love them,” she told the publication.
According to iDiva, she has an Hermès Kelly bag priced between US$7,000 and US$8,000, and a Gucci Large Rajah tote that costs around US$2,500. She also owns a Chanel red side-pack bag (around US$6,500) and a pink Chanel Deauville Canvas Tote (around US$3,000). Consider us jealous!
