Chinese heiress-turned-investor Wendy Yu makes a donation to promote The Met in China
The donation creates a new position at The Met’s Costume Institute to facilitate cultural exchange between The Met and Chinese art and fashion communities

Chinese heiress-turned-investor Wendy Yu is furthering her influence in luxury fashion. Following her investment in London fashion brand Mary Katrantzou, she has recently made a donation to The Metropolitan Museum of Art to create the position of Wendy Yu Curator in Charge of The Costume Institute.
The position will help with cultural exchanges between The Met and Chinese art and fashion communities. The Costume Institute’s Curator in Charge, Andrew Bolton, will take on the new position as well.
Bolton, an experienced and award-winning curator who joined The Met in 2002 after a nine-year stint at London’s Victoria & Albert Museum, was the mastermind behind the “China: Through the Looking” Glass exhibition.

“The Costume Institute and Andrew Bolton set an international benchmark for the industry,” Yu says. “I’m passionate about supporting the arts and specifically fashion, while providing an opportunity for creative and cultural exchange with China.”
Yu adds that through Yu Fashion, a division of her Hong Kong-based Yu Holdings company, she wishes to focus on “promoting education, fashion philanthropy and building cross-continent connection”.
