The New York Bridal Week Fall 2019 has just lowered its curtains. Time-honoured labels like Vera Wang, Elie Saab and Carolina Herrera, as well as rising designers such as Monique Lhuillier, presented fanciful collections for brides-to-be to dream about when they walk down the aisle.

Here are our top picks from the semi-annual event to fall in love with, whether you’re planning a wedding or not.

Vera Wang

Vera Wang is the bridal queen who has designed gowns for celebrities including Ivanka Trump, Kim Kardashian, Sofia Vergara, and, most recently, Barbara Bush, daughter of former US president George W. Bush.

Inspired by King Louis XIV who was enthusiastic about clothes, the collection had a soft and warm colour palette, finished with golden detailing and red velvet belts. The designer underscored the regal style with weighty accessories like crowns and chunky Gothic earrings.

Tadashi Shoji

Inspired by the brides themselves, Tadashi Shoji’s autumn 2019 bridal collection highlighted simple silhouettes and royal elegance. Crafted from lighthearted tulle fabric, a series of airy gowns with tea length-hemlines and blush pink, laurel-leaf embellishment yield lightness and delicacy.

Exquisite details such as fitted sleeves, Watteau trains, lace-trimmed veils, matt sequins, iridescent cording complemented the sophisticated embroidery.

Filipino-American fashion designer Monique Lhuillier entered the bridal business as a bride-to-be planning for her own wedding. She couldn’t find anything she liked on the market, so she created her own dress.

Her business swiftly took off after Britney Spears wore her gown to her 2004 wedding, followed by Reese Witherspoon donning a blush strapless dress marrying Jim Toth in 2011. The designer’s ready-to-wear but couture-quality designs are also favoured by celebrities including Blake Lively, Gwyneth Paltrow, Taylor Swift to Michelle Obama and Melania Trump.

The designer constructed a sensual garden for her new collection. Bold floral patterns are printed on silk organza and tulle fabric, in contrast with metallic, three-dimensional and jewelled elements. Capes, jackets, cathedral-length trains and streamers are crafted from floral lace with an abstract palette of sunset, peony and rose gold.

For the autumn 2019 bridal designs, the duo pushed brides into a different realm: pantsuits, frothy sleeves, high-waist shirt dresses as well minis. The collection is for bold and courageous brides-to-be.

The collection includes a vintage A-line gown with an open cross-back, petite bow detailing and deep V-neck, matched with a scarf-style veil wrapped around the model’s head in 1920s style.

The wide use of lace and satin matching structures and 3D floral patterns added a feminine touch to the design-oriented gowns.
