STYLE Edit: Victoria, Victoria Beckham collection channels the Italian Riviera’s laid-back luxury

After 10 years in the game, VB knows that women want to be unburdened by fashion, yet fashionably comfortable

The spring/summer 2019 Victoria, Victoria Beckham collection at London Fashion Week

The spring/summer 2019 Victoria, Victoria Beckham collection gives us the stylish minimalist, with refined yet relaxed silhouettes and bold use of colour and print. For this collection, VB presents us with a refreshing discourse between masculinity and femininity, taking inspiration from men’s jackets and tailored shirts, as well as prints that send us to the Italian Riviera of the 1960s. The result is a breezy, wearable collection that radiates laid-back luxury.

Playful pops of coloured leopard print appeared on flowy midi-dresses and intricate floral patterns were seen on the shimmering gold “Masculine Jacket” with its slightly-nipped waist. The wide-sleeve, pleat-back, striped tunic was inspired by classic men’s shirting and is available in red and tan-brown.

Embellishment was exact on the runway, with only the most precise layering of colour and material. After 10 years in the game, VB knows what she – and indeed, many other women – want; namely, to be unburdened by fashion, yet fashionably comfortable. For instance, the silk cami top in bright sky-blue, vanilla cream or black is trimmed with only the most delicate detailed lace on the bust and waist or decolletage. It is perfectly fitted to be worn under the masculine jacket or with tailored trousers.

The low-plunging neckline and skin-skimming satin form of the cami top reminds one of their favourite lingerie or silky pyjama set, but is then paired with the breezy earth-toned pants or boxy blazer to give it new relevance on the street.

For a strikingly dramatic sartorial ensemble, a long skirt features an asymmetric hem, cut and colour-blocked from bright tomato-red and buttercream yellow.

The runway look pairs the skirt with its matching tomato-red high-neck, open-back top, creating something exquisitely elegant for a day in the Italian sun.
