Understandably, being stuck at home can get tedious and stifling, but thanks to the coronavirus outbreak, travelling is mostly on hold. So if you are itching for some adventures, we found six exciting Netflix travel documentaries to fuel your wanderlust. From delving into the phenomenon of dark tourism to the vibrant spectrum of foodie cities, these shows are the answer to your virtual escape.

Jack Whitehall: Travels with My Father

Hit the road with comedian Jack Whitehall and his conservative father, Michael, for some bumpy and exciting adventures across Southeast Asia, Europe and North America. If you are into banter and raw comedy, then get ready to binge-watch three seasons of father-son bonding moments and get a chuckle watching their generation gap attitudes towards wild experiences.

The Kindness Diaries

Join Leon Logothetis on his motorcycle around the world as he depends on the kindness of strangers to offer him food, shelter and gas to survive. From Europe to Africa, the documentary shows budget travel is possible and faith in humanity can be restored.

Ugly Delicious

Fair warning to all foodies: do not watch this documentary on an empty stomach! From the authentic cuisines of Mumbai to the tasty Cajun spices of New Orleans, travel with award-winning chef David Chang and fellow celebrity guests on a mouth-watering and multicultural quest for the world's finest local dishes. The two-season series is a jumble of travel, cooking and history, making it informative yet entertaining.

Salt Fat Acid Heat

Another one for foodies – part cooking show and part travel show, the four-part documentary series shows how the basic elements of salt, fat, acid and heat can either “make or break a dish”. Based on the bestselling book with the same name, chef Samin Nosrat explores each element in the kitchens of Italy, Japan, Mexico and the United States.

Tales by Light

With breathtaking visuals, viewers are treated to spectacular scenes of nature, wildlife and indigenous communities. Follow the globe-trotting adventures of professional photographers as they challenge their skills by capturing powerful and storytelling images on the edges of the world.

Dark Tourist

Prefer a thrill-seeking and darker twist of travel? Get hooked on eight haunting episodes as journalist David Farrier visits locations that are not your usual travel hotspots. Join (from your sofa) Farrier as he explores the depths of the world, from exorcism in Mexico to a voodoo ceremony in Benin, nuclear lakes in Kazakhstan and a forbidden city in Cyprus.
