It’s no surprise that Bollywood films have gained massive followings worldwide, even in perhaps some of the least-expected nations with their own thriving, but distinct entertainment scenes – namely: South Korea. Despite several Korean films having their own Bollywood makeovers (Ode To My Father, Seven Days), the original Indian cinema has still caught the eyes of many Koreans movie-goers’ attention – including some major Korean stars like these five.

Jimin of BTS

During a V Live session with fans recently, the 1995-born singer mentioned that he had watched 3 Idiots – which instantly made the 2009 film a fresh viral hit among Korean and non-Korean fans. The coming-of-age drama stayed in number one after its release in South Korea and grossed more than US$3 million dollars.

Vav

The seven-member K-pop band Vav has stated their interest in working alongside Bollywood actor Aamir Khan – again after watching 3 Idiots. During their concert in India last year, Lou said that they have watched several Indian movies. Furthermore, St Van and Ayno stated that they “welcome any collaborative performances with Indian musicians”.

Jackson Wang of Got7

The Got7 rapper and reality TV star confessed his admiration of Bollywood and the country in a live video chat while promoting their album “Spinning Top: Between Security and Insecurity” with fellow band member, Jinyoung. “I really wish I could go to India, I love India so much. I watch Bollywood films too,” he said and further added that Indian cinema has its own style. Wang also said in an interview with DJ Alex Waters that he would love to learn Indian dialects.

Lai Kuan-lin of Wanna One

Another 3 Idiots fan is none other than the 18-year-old rapper of Wanna One boy band who posted the film’s snippet on his Instagram page. A fanpage has also stated that beside 3 Idiots, Lin also regarded the Korean romcom Our Times as his other favourite film.

Baek Jin-hee

During her visit to India, the Empress Ki star shared her love of watching Bollywood films, especially those that starred Indian actor Shah Rukh Khan. “Although I don’t know the language, I think, the artists are very talented as far as acting, singing and dancing are concerned. And Chak de! India is my favourite Hindi film,” she told Hindustan Times.
