STYLE Edit: Graff dazzles with new artistic high jewellery ranges Inspired by Twombly and Threads collections

Anne-Eva Geffroy, design director at Graff, introduces the Inspired by Twombly and Threads collections – the former taking cues from American artist Cy Twombly’s swirling calligraphy and topped by a necklace with almost 100 carats of rubies and diamonds

Adorned with some of the most valuable works by Andy Warhol, Damien Hirst and Roy Lichtenstein, the Mayfair headquarters of British jewellery house Graff reflects its owner’s enduring love of modern and contemporary art.

Laurence Graff’s avid collecting has often inspired the maison’s design team to create pieces dedicated to his favourite artists. One such tribute is the Inspired by Twombly high jewellery collection based on American artist Cy Twombly’s swirling calligraphy. Presented in a stunning range of earrings, rings and necklaces, the collection reinterprets Twombly’s looping lines, scribbles and abstract doodles with the finest stones and exceptional craftsmanship.

This year, the maison has expanded the collection with some stellar pieces like a set of pear-shaped earrings with enhanced loops that give an impression of elaborate ribbons studded with round and invisibly set emerald-cut diamonds.

A true masterpiece of design and intricate craftsmanship is the round diamond pavé bracelet. The seamless swirls of white gold studded with diamonds lend a captivating three-dimensional feel to this bracelet.

The unmatched skills of Graff’s master craftsmen are best displayed in the invisible stone-setting on gorgeous necklaces and earrings in this collection. Endless loops of glittering baguette-cut diamonds curve into a pear-shaped stone in the Twombly Diamond Drop earrings. The invisible setting on these jewels creates a hypnotic play of light on the wearer, making it a sight to behold.

The most magnificent piece Inspired by Twombly is surely the ruby and diamond necklace that evokes the artist’s Bacchus painting series – adorned with swirling ribbons of 49.21 carats of rubies and 46.24 carats of diamonds.

Besides the Inspired by Twombly jewels, the other highlight from Graff this season is the Threads collection. Symbolising the increasingly interconnected nature of modern society, this collection presents an unusual arrangement of custom cut baguettes and round diamonds that resemble random threads. Woven together like seamless latticework, the abstract yet beautiful compositions reflect Graff’s outstanding creativity.

“Threads reflects the pace of our modern life, we are increasingly more active, seemingly always on the move. Connections are almost instantaneous,” says Anne-Eva Geffroy, design director at Graff. “Our design perspective was to explore the meaning of all those crossing points, each of which is meaningful in our lives”.

From high jewellery pieces featuring precious diamonds as well as coloured gemstones to the more accessible range of bracelets, necklaces and rings, the Threads collection offers a variety of playful designs for a wide audience. “We infuse each jewel with the same dedicated care and attention,” explains Geffroy. “In every high jewellery design, the stone is the star of the show however we are careful to maintain the same harmonious balance, impeccable proportions and elegant silhouette across the entire collection.”

With its artful and spontaneous design language, the Threads collection reimagines the classic diamond setting like never before. So if you are looking for something truly extraordinary and modern, this could be the right pick for you.

The Threads collection also includes a timepiece created in the same fashion with elegant angular placement of diamonds on the bracelet and a tiny pentagon-shaped dial that merges seamlessly with the sparkling lattice of invisible threads.
