amfAR Gala Hong Kong raises over US$3.5 million to fight Aids

With the mission of “Make Aids History”, the star-studded amfAR Hong Kong Gala was opened by a speech from Naomi Campbell, followed by guests include Charlize Theron, Sir David Tang and Jackie Chan, while Pansy Ho was honoured with the amfAR Award of Courage for her efforts in supporting the event.

Over US$3.5 million was raised benefiting The Foundation for AIDS Research through auction of exclusive items such as attending the New York City premiere of The Fate of the Furious and tickets to the VIP after-party.

Performances by K-pop singer CL (Lee Chae-rin) and Grammy-nominated British pop singer Charli XCX were other highlights of the night. The guests continued to enjoy themselves at the after-party featuring a DJ set by five-time Grammy Award-winning musician Mark Ronson.

What inspired you to be one of the co-chairs this year?
Around 2000, I played a patient with HIV in a movie. I talked to some HIV patients when preparing for the role. I understand their feelings and I want to do something to help them.

Tell us something about your outfit tonight.
This dress is from Balmain and I got these shoes from Pierre Hardy many years ago. This little handbag I’m carrying is from my own brand Matra Hari. My assistant got me this pair of earrings from Harvey Nichols earlier today.

Any new projects coming up?
My band Josie & The Uni Boys will release a new song soon. It features lyrics by Wyman Wong and Andrew Lam Man-chung. I’m so honoured to work with both of them.
