5 new Instagram-worthy eateries to visit in Kuala Lumpur in August
The colourful food, ice cream, decor and tableware of these cafes and restaurants make them the perfect backdrop for your selfies
Most of these new places have one thing in common: they are Instagram-worthy.
1. Frozen by Ken
Frequent visitors of Jalan Telawi might have spotted this new name opposite of Bangsar Village II. Within its unsuspecting doors is an entire Instagram-worthy space complete with pink neon lights, wireframe chairs and touches of marble. What's even more impressive is their extensive dessert menu, ranging from a wide variety of ice cream flavours to Australia-style desserts. Durian fans might have their heart skip a beat at The King which features Musang King ice cream and coconut sorbet, encased in a mini-durian shape.
Address: No. 6, Jalan Telawi 4, Bangsar Baru
Opening hours: 8.30am-11pm (Sundays to Thursdays); 8.30am-12am (Fridays and Saturdays); closed on Tuesday
Phone: 03 2856 8289
2. Lisette’s Café & Bakery
Formerly known as DR.Inc, the cafe has been rebranded with a new name and retains its lunch buffet (Tuesdays and Fridays at RM30 (US$7.32) per person). Now run by The Social, it will be adding freshly baked bread as well later this month.
Address: 8 Jalan Kemuja, Bangsar
Opening hours: 8am-5pm
3. Joloko
If you usually hang out in downtown Kuala Lumpur (Bangsar does not count) and you love tropical-themed interiors, hit up Joloko. On the menu: spicy Caribbean-style barbecue right from the grill, mescal, tequila, cocktails and more.
Address: 43, Jalan Kamunting, Chow Kit
Opening hours: 5pm-1am (Wednesdays, Thursdays and Sundays); 5pm-2am (Fridays and Saturdays)
Phone: 03 2694 1100
4. Tapas Club
For classic and authentic Spanish delights – paellas, Iberico pork from Spain itself, churros, you name it – Tapas Club is ready to serve and literally delight. The casual dining restaurant is the brainchild of world-acclaimed chefs Jose Angel Alonso (executive chef at Singapore’s Binomio and hosted the World Gourmet Summit 2016) and Manuel Berganza (the first Spanish chef in the US to receive a Michelin star through Andananda in New York).
Address: Level 7, Dining Loft @ Pavilion Kuala Lumpur
Opening hours: 10.30am-11.30pm
5. Kettlebell
Flashes of pink, gorgeous tableware (from gold spoons to matt plates that perfectly match the marble tables) and healthy food pretty much sum up this cafe housed within Firestation at Plaza Mont Kiara. Fun fact: The cafe is the sister company of Publika’s Pan & Tamper.
Address: C-G-1, Plaza Mont Kiara
Opening hours: 8am-6pm
