The world’s biggest hot-spring theme park, Solaniwa Onsen, in Japan – spanning more than 16,500 square metres – will hold its grand opening on February 26.

Located between the second and fifth floors of Osaka Bay Tower, in Osaka, the “onsen” – a Japanese term for hot spring, which is used to describe both bathing facilities and traditional inns – successfully combines traditional Japan concepts with exceptional modern designs.

This one-of-a-kind park will offer its guests relaxation for the body and soul with the themes of “healing, beauty and food”.

Check out these five reasons why an overnight stay at Solaniwa Onsen should not be missed.

1. Travel back in time

The Azuchi-Momoyama era – a period in Japanese history from about 1568 to 1600, characterised by political unification and great magnificence and ostentation – is regarded as the time that saw the establishment of Osaka.

The facilities at Solaniwa Onsen have been designed to recreate buildings in towns of this period.

In order to help guests at Solaniwa Onsen enjoy a traditional hot-spring experience, the theme park will offer them a yukata – or light cotton kimono – to wear during their visit.

People will also be able to stand out from the crowd if they wish, by renting costumes, including those of ninjas and princesses, inspired by the Azuchi-Momoyama period.

2. Huge range of hot-spring bathing

Solaniwa Onsen’s hot springs offer the perfect setting to help guests relax and not only ease the aches and pains of their daily routines, but also leave feeling stimulated and spiritually refreshed.

The park offers a choice of more than seven types of natural springs and rock baths, with the waters known to offer many health benefits, including reducing joint pains.

Mixed-gender outdoor bathing areas are available in the park, but guests can also rent baths for their private use.

3. Stunning rooftop Japanese garden

If you are looking for some photogenic Instagramable places at the park, the rooftop garden is the place to go.

The park’s 3,300-square-metre Japanese garden, which features a pond and waterfall, is also filled with colourful seasonal blossoms.

The rooftop garden also includes a long, uniquely designed foot bath, where you can relax and warm your feet in the hot spring waters.

4. A great place to relax

Solaniwa Onsen features a spacious third-floor recliner lounge, where guests can relax and enjoy a traditional luxurious massage.

Solaniwa Onsen also offers a women’s relaxation and “powder room”, featuring a large selection of Japanese designed hair and skin care products.

 5. Chefs put on a culinary show

To leave Osaka without having tasted its local food would be unforgivable.

Locally grown products are used in the park’s restaurants to create stunning authentic Japanese cuisine, which combines modern ingredients and traditional Azuchi-Momoyama era seasoning.

Guests dining at the theme park can also enjoy expert chefs as they display their entertaining culinary skills while preparing the meal.

Don’t forget to try the Japanese sake in the bar or visit the sweet store, offering delicate Japan treats that cannot be found elsewhere.
