Girard-Perregaux returns to SIHH with a pleasant surprise

Girard-Perregaux makes a return to the Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie (SIHH) this year. The brand, which has bragging rights as a founding member of SIHH, left the show in 2013 – but decided to return after four years at Baselworld.

The brand teased its return with the new WW.TC watch that is part of its 1966 collection. The acronym stands for World Wide Time Control and the watch is made for the modern individual who not only travels globally, but also works on a global scale and caters to multiple time zones.

In the classic 1966 style, the WW.TC boasts clean, smooth lines and two crowns on opposite sides of the case (one at 3 o’clock, the other at 9 o’clock). On the dial is a 24-hour rotating disc, which features an easy-to-read night and day indicator, courtesy of the two semicircles in black and white.

The 40mm case allows the wearer to read the time of all 24 world cities on the dial with ease. An elegant “leaf-type” hands – a signature character of the brand’s 1966 collection – is a major part of the appeal, as is the transparent sapphire case back through which watch aficionados can admire the movement.

Inside the watch beats a manufacture automatic movement that comes with a power reserve of 46 hours. The watch is available in two versions: pink gold with a matching black alligator leather strap; and steel with either steel or alligator leather strap.
