After an impressive career spanning over forty years, Hayao Miyazaki is finally retiring
On 1 September, esteemed Japanese animator Hayao Miyazaki announced his retirement from directing feature-length animated films. At a 6 September press conference sponsored by his company, Studio Ghibli, he explained that old age and a desire to work on other projects had led to this decision.
In light of his retirement, the South China Morning Post designed this interactive timeline to pay tribute to a rich and varied career that includes family favourite films like 1988's My Neighbour Totoro and real-world historical dramas such as 2013's The Wind Rises.
