Coronavirus: Singapore confirms three new cases, bringing total to 96
- Of the new cases – a 64-year-old woman, 44-year-old man and 12-year-old boy – two are linked to previous patients, the Ministry of Health said
- Meanwhile, four more patients have recovered and been discharged from hospital – joining 62 others in the city state

Singapore on Thursday confirmed three more cases of the novel coronavirus, bringing the country’s total to 96, as an additional four recovered patients were discharged from hospital.
Of the three new cases – a 64-year-old woman, 44-year-old man and 12-year-old boy – two are linked to previous patients, the city state’s Ministry of Health said in a statement.
None have any recent travel history to China or the two cities in South Korea at the heart of a recent outbreak there, but all are being treated in isolation, the statement said.
Of Singapore’s 96 cases, 66 have fully recovered, 30 are still in hospital – with “most” stable and improving – and eight are in intensive care, according the ministry.
Nearly 3,000 close contacts of the patients have been identified, 2,642 of whom have completed quarantine with 245 still confined.
Singapore has asked its citizens to avoid all non-essential travel to mainland China, especially Hubei province where the outbreak originated, and South Korea’s Daegu and Cheongdo, where hundreds of new cases have been reported in recent weeks – as of Thursday, the country’s total stood at 1,766.
The outbreak of novel coronavirus, which causes a pneumonia-like disease known as Covid-19, has spread rapidly and widely, infecting about 80,000 people globally and killing nearly 2,800, the vast majority in mainland China.
