A 41-year old man has been arrested in relation to the fatal series of explosive devices set off on Wednesday in Taiyuan, the Shanxi provincial capital, state media said.

Feng Zhijun, a native of Taiyuan's northeastern Xinghualing district, was captured at around 2am in Taiyuan on Friday, the state-owned news agency Xinhua said. Police have seized homemade explosive devices and "a large amount of criminal evidence" from Feng's home, Xinhua said.

Feng, who had previously been sentenced to nine years in prison for larceny, confessed to planting the bombs, Xinhua said.

One person was killed and eight others injured when a string of explosive devices detonated outside the Shanxi Communist Party committee building at around 7.40am on Wednesday. Dozens of vehicles were damaged in the explosions, and police found ball bearings, nails and circuit boards at the blast scene.

A police officer reached at the Xinghualing district police station said he was not allowed to comment on the case.
