Chinese man 'stabs wife and her mother to death during mediation at police station'

Chinese authorities are investigating the deaths of a mother and daughter in a local police station.

The two women, from a village in Huangsi town near Xingtai district, Hebei province, had gone with the daughter’s husband, Cao Zhenqi, to their village police station on July 12 for mediation over a domestic issue, state-run Radio.cn reported.

During mediation, Cao had a fierce argument with his wife, and he allegedly stabbed her and his mother-in-law. The elder woman died on the way to hospital while the younger one died from her injuries five days later. Cao has been held under police custody since.

Xingtai police said prosecution officers were investigating whether police officers misbehaved during the incident and contributed to the attack in any way. The investigation results would be made public, police said.
