More than 30 mothers staged a flash mob event in Guangzhou city in China’s southern Guangdong province to promote awareness about breastfeeding, local media reported.

The mothers gathered outside the Canton Tower landmark on Saturday, many breastfeeding infants in the arms, the Southern Metropolis News reports.

A dozen also donated more than a litre of breast milk to the Guangzhou Women and Children Medical Centre, the report said. It was the third such event held in Guangzhou since 2013.

More than 800 mothers around the globe volunteered to donate 635 litres of breast milk by July 18.

Breastfeeding is less widely practised on the mainland than in Western countries, but recent food scares involving infant formula have prompted some mothers to embrace it. They face challenges however in finding a comfortable spot to feed their infants in public places.
