Chinese sperm banks use appeal of new Apple iPhone 6s in their own appeals - for donors

Mainland's WeChat post 'You don’t need to give up a kidney to raise cash to buy an iPhone 6s as you can get enough money just by donating sperm! attracts 400,000 hits within days

Renji Hospital, in the Huangpu district of Shanghai, and the sperm bank in Hubei’s provincial capital, Wuhan, both added posts on WeChat – the mainland’s most popular social media mobile text and voice messaging service – that mentioned the phones in messages encouraging more men to donate their sperm, the news website Changjiangtimes.com reported.

“You don’t need to give up a kidney to raise cash to buy an iPhone 6s as you can get enough money just by donating sperm!” the wrote.

Their posts were left on Monday and had already attracted more than 400,000 hits, the website reported

However, it did not say how many men had actually provided sperm donations at the two centres after reading the WeChat posts.

Hubei’s provincial sperm bank said it was looking for donors, aged 22 and 45, and would pay 5,000 yuan for each 40 ml sample of semen that they provided.

However, some university students added their own posts on WeChat criticising the campaign, saying that the sperm banks’ campaign sounded like a lure and that it was wrong to use the appeal of the iPhone6s to encourage new sperm donations.
