Badly behaved Chinese tourists have descended on Shanghai Disneyland – even before it opens.

Scores of excited tourists who couldn’t wait for the theme park’s opening on June 16, visited Disney Town, situated right beside the park, over the Labour Day public holiday on Monday.

And they made sure to leave their mark there too.

A photo of a Disney Town lamp post defaced with scrawlings that read “was here travelling” has gone viral online, Thepaper.cn reports.

Internet users have condemned the act of vandalism at the shopping and entertainment district located right next to the entrance of the Shanghai Disneyland park, the report said.

Disney Town is owned by Shanghai Disneyland along with other nearby facilities, including the Ecological Green Park and Shanghai Village, a sprawling shopping area.

A 300,000-square-metre park showcasing vanilla orchids next to Shanghai Village also saw an exponential increase in visitors on Monday.

Special measures had to be taken after some tourists stepped onto the green to take photos and others started picking flowers despite park authorities’ warnings, according to the report.

Makeshift fences were erected in front of a vanilla garden in the park, with batches of only 20 tourists allowed to take photos for three minutes each time.

But not all the tourists visiting the area were badly behaved, though.

The report said most visitors brought their own food and carried plastic bags to contain their trash.

Shanghai Metro authorities said Monday’s passenger numbers rose 50 per cent and 20 per cent respectively at Longyang and Luoshan stations – two major transfer stops to Disney Town station.
