Jiuzhaigou, a famous nature reserve and national park in southwest China and once a place of peace and tranquillity, has been packed with tourists during the holiday season, with tens of thousands queueing up to get in, a news website reported.

Some 38,298 tickets were sold to enter the park in Sichuan province by noon on Wednesday, Thepaper.cn reported. Photographs showed huge crowds trying to get into the reserve.

If the number of visitors topped 41,000 the park would have to stop more people coming in, a member of staff was quoted as saying. A tour guide said people had started queueing outside the gates at 6am.

More than 30,000 visitors a day have entered the park since August 3, the report said.

One tourist commented online that it was impossible to take a photograph at the nature reserve without other people in it.

Another said the scene was as crowded as the travel rush during the Lunar New Year festival in China.

Tour guides suggest visiting the parked, famed for its mountains, forests and stunning scenery, out of the holiday season, such as in September.
