A female hotel guest in central China was injured by a hedgehog that was mysteriously found in her pillow, according to media reports.

Police were called to a hotel on the outskirts of Xi’an, Shanxi province on Wednesday morning to settle a dispute between the hotel landlord and a group of guests.

Hangzhou-based newspaper City Express reported later that day that the parties came to blows over the hedgehog that had made its way into one of the guests’ room.

One guest, nicknamed Xiao Li, said the group of four checked into a room in the Mong Kok Hotel in Hejiaying New Village, on Tuesday evening.

They later found what appeared to be bloodstains on one of the pillows and sheets.

“At first, we didn’t think anything of it, but a woman in our group said she was ‘attacked’,” said Xiao Li.

“She felt she was pricked by something when she laid her head on the pillow.”

Upon opening the pillowcase, the guests found a hedgehog inside and immediately notified the hotel landlord of the situation. Neither side thought that it would end up in a fight.

“We told him there was a hedgehog in the room, but he kept denying it,” said Xiao Li.

The hotel told the newspaper that the rooms were cleaned every day and previous guests staying in the room had not reported a hedgehog there.

The police later found the hedgehog hiding under the bed in Xiao Li’s room.

There was no report of any arrests being made.
