Accused crocodile skin coat thief also stole Hilfiger shorts, court told

A shoplifter who stole a HK$900,000 crocodile skin coat from a Burberry store in Tsim Sha Tsui also stole five pairs of shorts worth HK$5,450 from a Tommy Hilfiger outlet, a court heard yesterday.
Kamal Rai, 37, from Nepal, was charged with stealing the coat from the Burberry outlet in Silvercord shopping mall in Canton Road last Wednesday.
He was also charged with stealing the shorts three days earlier.
His alleged accomplice, Bashir Osman, 31, was charged with handling stolen goods.
Osman disposed of the coat at Chungking Mansions later in the week, according to the charge sheet.
Rai is accused of taking the coat off a mannequin before slipping out of the store at 7.45pm last Wednesday. Staff noticed the garment missing after the store closed that night.
Security camera footage showed a man taking the coat and walking out unchallenged while staff were busy serving other customers.
The coat had just arrived in the shop and did not have a security tag.
The thief was in and out of the shop - one of 14 Burberry has in the city - in about a minute.
Principal Magistrate Peter Law released Osman on bail of HK$20,000.
Rai did not apply for bail.
The case was adjourned to March 24 while the pair's mobile telephone records are investigated.
