Erwiana to return to Hong Kong to assist in assault case against former employer
Erwiana to undergo medical examination ahead of prosecution of her ex-employer
"According to Erwiana's lawyer in Indonesia, Hong Kong police asked Erwiana to return for a medical examination in Hong Kong.
She will be here from April 7 to April 13," said Eni Lestari, spokeswoman for the Justice for Erwiana and All Migrant Domestic Workers Committee.
Ramon Bultron of the Asia Pacific Mission for Migrants said Erwiana might take part in events next week planned by rights groups.
Erwiana's former employer, Law Wan-tung, 44, first appeared in court in January. She was charged with causing grievous bodily harm, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, common assault, and four counts of criminal intimidation against three domestic helpers.
The case was due to resume last week but was adjourned to April 29. Prosecutor Rosaline Leung asked for the delay in Kwun Tong Court because she said she was waiting for "full medical reports and full pathologist's reports on all alleged victims to be sent from Indonesia".
She said that all victims' statements were ready.
Erwiana flew back to Indonesia on January 10 and was subsequently admitted to hospital in Sragen, Java. She arrived in Hong Kong in May last year and worked for a family for eight months.
A police spokeswoman said: "Police requested the victim of a wounding case reported to police on January 12 return to Hong Kong for follow-up arrangements related to the prosecution.
"As legal proceedings of the case are in progress, Police will not make any [further] comment."
