Police are investigating after a woman was found hanged at public toilet in Bowen Road Park, Mid-Levels yesterday morning.

The woman, a 32-year-old of South Asian origin, is thought to have committed suicide, although police have categorised the case as "person found hanging". Police said there were no suspicious circumstances.

Officers were called to the park at 7.30am after a sanitation worker found the body in a cubicle that had been locked from the inside.

"The police arrived at park and the woman was found hanging inside the toilet cubicle, and pronounced dead at the scene," a police spokeswoman said.

The body was placed in a green tent outside the bathroom for about four hours as morning joggers passed the park. Police said no note was found with the body and that there were "no suspicious elements" to the case.

Police were seen examining a black cloth bag left at the scene, which contained the woman's Hong Kong identity card along with pictures and a purple scarf.

The Mid-Levels neighbourhood is home to some of the city's most expensive homes, commanding views for affluent residents and high-flying expatriate workers.

Stretching from Mid-Levels to Happy Valley, Bowen Road straddles a popular trail for runners and hikers, and is known for its scenic views over the harbour.
