Hong Kong warned to brace for a cold week but a warmer Christmas

Hong Kong is heading for a chilly week but a warmer Christmas, with temperatures expected to drop later Friday and reach their lowest point on Monday, the Observatory has said.

On Saturday, the minimum temperature will drop to 13 degrees Celsius reaching a low of 11 degrees Celsius on Monday, before remaining steady at 12 degrees on Tuesday and Wednesday. The maximum temperature will be under 20 degrees throughout the week.

The Observatory reminded Hongkongers to prepare for cold mornings from Sunday to next Wednesday. Cold weather warnings, which are usually issued when the daily minimum temperature drops below 13 degrees, are likely.

The nine-day forecast said the weather would be “significantly cooler” on Saturday as a cold front reaches the coast of neighbouring Guangdong province on Friday night.

An intense winter monsoon over southern China on Sunday and the following few days will bring cold, dry, sunny and windy weather, it said.

The temperature will start to climb slightly from next Thursday to a fine and dry Christmas Eve. The minimum temperature is expected to rise from 13 degrees on the day to 16 degrees on Sunday and the maximum from 19 to 21 degrees.
